1. What this policy covers
This policy covers the Makelfy web application and the marketing website. It applies to every visitor and to every account holder. Where product behaviour differs between Free, Student and Pro plans, that difference is called out explicitly.
2. What we collect
We only collect what is needed to run the product and to reply to you:
- Account information - your name, email, and the plan you signed up for.
- Content - the notes you paste in, the outlines you upload, and the decks generated from them.
- Usage signals - which pages you visited, which features you used, and how the generation performed. Used to keep the product fast.
- Billing metadata - subscription status and last four digits of the payment card. Full card data never touches our systems.
3. What we do not collect
We do not build advertising profiles. We do not sell your notes, decks or contact details. We do not read your decks. We do not train foundation models on your content.
4. How your content is used
Content is processed to produce the output you requested - a designed deck, speaker notes, a chat edit - and then stored under your account. Aggregated, non-identifying signals about system performance are used to improve the product. Individual content is never used for model training.
5. Third parties we work with
Makelfy uses a small number of specialised sub-processors to run:
- A cloud infrastructure provider for compute and encrypted storage.
- A model provider for the AI generation step.
- A PCI DSS Level 1 payment processor for subscription billing.
- An email service to deliver transactional messages such as sign-up credentials and password resets.
Each sub-processor is bound by a written data-processing agreement.
6. Retention
Free-tier decks are retained for 30 days from the last time you opened them. Student and Pro decks are retained for the life of the account. You can delete any deck permanently at any time - deletions propagate through all storage layers within 24 hours.
7. Your rights
You can access, correct, export or delete your account and its content at any time from your account settings. If you would like to exercise these rights over email, use the Contact page and select "Privacy" as the topic - the request is acknowledged within 72 hours and completed within 30 days.
8. Cookies
Makelfy sets a small number of first-party cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your interface preferences. We do not run third-party ad-tracking cookies. A cookie preferences panel is available in your account settings.
9. International transfers
Application data is hosted in India (Mumbai region) with an encrypted read replica in Ireland (eu-west-1). If your account is in the EU or UK, standard contractual clauses cover the cross-border transfer under GDPR.
10. Changes to this policy
When this policy changes materially, we email active account holders in advance and highlight the change on this page. Historical versions are kept for reference and can be requested via the Contact page.
11. Contact
For privacy questions, use the Contact page and choose "Privacy" or "Security" as the topic. Requests are routed to the person responsible for data protection.
